About Us

Our Lady of Sorrows Shrine is a church located at Dolores, Quezon dedicated to the Birhen Dolorosa or the Blessed Virgin Mary, venerated under the title Our Lady of Sorrows in relation to sorrows in her life.

The Shrine gathers devotees from all over Quezon especially during the Viernes de Dolores or the Friday of Sorrows which is a solemn pious remembrance of the sorrowful Blessed Virgin Mary on the Friday before Palm Sunday held in the fifth week of Lent.

Celebration of Friday of Sorrows in the Philippines includes processions, public penance, mournful singing and the mortification of the flesh. In Dolores, Quezon it is celebrated with the holy Mass and a “Turumba”, a dance praising the town’s patron saint.

On June 15, 2017, the declaration of the Our Lady of Sorrows church as a national shrine was led by Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Archbishop Socrates Villegas and Lucena Diocese Bishop Emilio Marquez along with 20 other bishops.
